PAOLUCCI
Amaro Ciociaro

The vibrant, bittersweet bouquet is citrusy; herbal, floral and earthy. The palate entry is bittersweet, intensely herbal and earthy but refreshingly orange citrusy; the tasty midpalate is marked by heightened sweetness and a more mineral-like core flavor.
Finish is savory and bittersweet.

SUPERB (90-95) / HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

PAOLUCCI
Amaro Ciociaro

We thought we recognized orange peel and licorice, and liked this one as much as amaroi costing $10 more. "Not too much length on the finish--which might be a good thing," said Robert. Cocktail-hour alert:We tried this one on the rocks, with soda, and it was tasty.

Sambuca

The nosing passes find scents of aniseed and licorice with additional aromas of lead pencil and linseed oil. The palate entry is correctly licorice-like and syrupy; at mid-palate the sweetness accelerates and accentuates the aniseed and waxy texture. Finishes long, mildly bittersweet and even a touch quinine-like.

SUPERB (85-89) / RECOMMENDED

NANDO Asti is frothy, sweet but not cloying, bright with orange blossom and honeysuckle overtones to candy-like fruit.   Don't try to find complexity here. This is a festive wine that demands to be judged on its own intrinsic merits; a fabulous picnic wine. Rated not on complexity but on how well it captures the essence of Asti Spumante.

NANDO Asti
Almost ovderly floral and sweet, with the palate showing an overdose of heavy citrus fruit. Finishes expectedly sweet, with a good mouthfeel. Attacks forcefully.
